During your personalised Interview Coaching session we will first pinpoint exactly which aspects of your interview technique you are having difficulties with before devising an appropriate action plan and working with you to help you improve. We can help you with what to say, how to say it, including teaching you specific techniques to structure and deliver your answers effectively and ensure that you give the best interview performance possible. We provide Standard interview coaching to improve your interview skills overall, or Focused interview coaching to help you prepare for an upcoming interview for a specific role. See below for a step-by-step guide to your interview coaching session.
Standard & Focused interview coaching
Standard Interview Coaching
Our Standard Interview Coaching can help you prepare for any future interview but will be aimed at helping you prepare for a type of role (e.g., Project Manager), or roles in a certain sector (e.g., accountancy). You do not need to have an upcoming interview for a specific role to use this service.
Focused Interview Coaching
Our Focused Interview Coaching can help you prepare for an interview for a specific role (e.g., an upcoming interview for a job you have applied for). We will use the Job Description & Person Specification for any target roles to identify the most likely interview questions to come up.
Step-by-step guide to our interview coaching service
Before your interview coaching session
Before your interview coaching session we will ask you to send some details to help your interview coach to prepare effectively, ensuring you get the most from your interview coaching session. Preparation will vary depending on whether you are using our Standard or Focused interview coaching service:
Standard Interview Coaching
With our Standard Interview Coaching service, we will ask you to send us a copy of your CV along with details of the type of job role and approximate salary level you are targeting. This will enable your interview coach to tailor your session to fit with the type of role, sector and career level you are aiming for.
Focused Interview Coaching
If you have selected our Focused Interview Coaching option, we will also ask you to send details of any roles you are being interviewed for. Your Interview Coach will spend time before your session assessing the Job Description / Person Specification for your target role(s). This will enable your coach to identify the exact questions you are likely to face in your upcoming interview.
Stage 1) Assessing your current skill level
At the beginning of your session your Interview Coach will discuss with you which areas of your interview technique you feel require the most work and what aspects of the interview you are feeling most anxious or stressed about. This will include discussing your your previous interview performance and any unsuccessful interviews you have attended to help analyse what went wrong and where you can improve.
Standard Interview Coaching
Your Interview Coach will then ask you some relevant test interview questions of the type you will be likely to face in a real interview. This will enable your Interview Coach to assess your current skill level effectively and highlight which areas require the most attention for you.
Focused Interview Coaching
With our Focused Interview Coaching option, your test questions will be based directly on the Person Specification for your target role and any information provided about your upcoming interview. This ensures your test questions will be as close as possible to the ‘real thing’.
Stage 2) Coaching to develop your interview skills
Next, your Interview Coach will provide detailed feedback on your answers to the test interview questions.
Standard & Focused Interview Coaching
With both our Standard & Focused Interview Coaching, this feed back will include:
- How well you listened to and understood the interview questions
- How well your examples demonstrated the relevant skills / competencies
- If you included all the required / relevant information in your answers
- If you provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements
- How well you delivered your answers
- If you interacted appropriately with the interviewer
- If you said or did anything likely to give a bad impression or put off interviewers
Once you and your Interview Coach have identified the key issues and areas you need help with, they will then work with you to improve your interview technique. This can include:
- Helping you to anticipate questions / skills likely to come up (to help you prepare)
- Preparation of standard answers to Tough Questions you may be asked at interview
- Helping you to develop your answers to Skill / Competency Based Interview Questions
- Helping you select the best interview examples to demonstrate your skills and achievements
- Preparing answer to Strength Based, Value Based and Scenario Based Interview Questions
- Guidance on how to Research a potential employer before your interview
- Providing Relevant Questions for you to ask a potential employer at interview
- Improving your Body Language to demonstrate your interest
- Practical advice to improve your confidence at interview and banish interview nerves!
Focused Interview Coaching
In addition to all the above, our ‘Focused Interview Coaching’ will involve working on answers to the actual interview questions most likely to come up at your interview (based on Person Specification & Interview Format information).
Stage 3) Mock Interview to practice your new skills
Standard & Focused Interview Coaching
At the end of the session we can stage a short Mock Interview to allow you to benchmark your progress and practice your new techniques. Because we use real job interview questions throughout you can be assured that you will gain a realistic understanding of your interview performance has improved. Our clients find this one of the most helpful aspects of our interview coaching.
Focused Interview Coaching
With our ‘Focused Interview Coaching’, your Mock Interview will be based on the exact questions most likely to come up at your interview.

After session follow up
Standard & Focused Interview Coaching
You will receive a full written Interview Coaching Feedback Report including notes on everything covered during your session. This will include details of strong points, areas for improvement and general advice for each of the interview questions covered as well as advice on improving your overall approach and confidence. Your Interview Coach will also recommend specific areas for you to continue working on in your own time after the session.

This includes reviewing each of your examples and suggesting how these can be strengthened by adding additional detail.
