Step-by-step guide to our Career Transition Coaching
Before your first Career Coaching session
Before your first Career Coaching session we will ask you to send some details to help your Career Coach to prepare effectively, ensuring you get the most from your Career Coaching. This can include your CV or copies of Job Applications you have previously submitted. You can also send us details of any roles you are targeting. This will help your Career Coach to gain an understanding of your background, skills and experience.
Session 1) Career Discovery
Our Career Transition Coaching includes an initial Career Discovery session to help you uncover your unique career requirements and aspirations. We will also conduct a Skills & Achievements Audit to build a realistic picture of what you do best as well as a Career Barriers Review to identify potential barriers to career paths you are considering. This will enable your Career Coach to develop realistic recommendations for your next move or to help you achieve your existing career goals.
Skills & Achievements Audit
We will first help you audit your own skills and achievements to identify what you do best and how you can harness transferable skills in your new career. This will provide a realistic view of your range of skills and the types of work you can do. We can also assess whether any career paths you are considering are realistic based on your skills and experience. This will include discussing which skills you would most like to use in your future career and which aspects of your experience you would like to build upon.
Career Requirements & Objectives Review
This will include discussing your personal career objectives, such as improving work/life balance, increasing your salary or getting onto the career path you have always dreamed of. We will also discuss other factors affecting your career choices, such as your salary requirements and preferences on location and working patterns to enable us to identify the best options for your next career move or assess whether the type of career you are considering will meet your needs. Alongside this your coaching will explore more holistic factors such as the type of work you would most like to do, what you would like to get out of your career and how you would like to progress your career in the future.
Career Barriers Review
We can also help you identify potential barriers to possible career paths and address tricky career issues (such as long career breaks, illness, redundancy or being dismissed from a previous role). Your Career Coach can provide sound and honest advice on how this may impact your future career as well as potential solutions. If you already have an idea of the career path you would like to take, we can assess whether you have the required skills and experience to achieve your career aims and identify skills you need to develop to progress on your chosen career path.
Research & Recommendations
After your Career Discovery session your Career Coach will conduct in depth research to create your personalised Career Options Recommendations. This will include detailed research into potential roles and career paths you could take, including potential target job titles, realistic salary expectations and progression routes as well as skills and experience you may need to consider developing to progress on your chosen career path.
Session 2) Mapping Your Career
During your second coaching session, your Career Coach will provide detailed feedback and recommended career options based on your Career Discovery and research. Your coach will then work with you to compare these options and help you decide on the path you would like to take. We will then help you develop your personal Career Transition Strategy and define your short/long-term career goals. The final stage of this process involves Career Mapping, detailing your planned progression and career milestones over the next 1, 5 and 10 years.
Career Options Review
Your Career Coach will present your recommended career options and discuss each of them in detail to help you decide which where you would like to take your career. Your coach will provide details of potential career paths, with target roles as well as defining progression routes, salary and future options. This will include a comparison of your likely progression in 1, 5 and 10 years for each potential career path.
Career Transition Strategy Development
Once you have decided on the career path you would like to take, your Career Coach will work with you to define your unique career transition strategy to help you achieve your career objectives in a way that works for you.
Career Goal Setting
Once we have defined your strategy, your Career Coach will work with you to set short, mid and long-term career goals and provide practical advice on achieving them. This could include recommending training you need to complete, or skills and experience you need to build to remove barriers to your career transition or progression.
Career Mapping
We will then review your selected career path to develop a defined Career Map to plan where you want your career to be in 1, 5 and 10 years time. This will involve defining how your career may progress along your preferred career path, including details of job roles, salary and potential onward progression paths.
