Step 1) – Consultation

    1) Which Civil Service Behaviours are you experienced in working with?

    We have worked with all of the Behaviours in the current Success Profiles framework as well as all Competencies in the previous (2012 – 2017) Civil Service Competency Framework (which were very similar). This includes: 1) Seeing the Big Picture, 2) Changing and Improving, 3) Making Effective Decisions, 4) Leadership, 5) Communicating and Influencing, 6) Working Together, 7) Developing Self and Others, 8) Managing a Quality Service, 9) Delivering at Pace. We are also experienced in working with other frameworks used within certain parts of the Civil Service or for specialist business areas such as Law, Military or Procurement. If you are not sure if we can help, please contact us.

    2) I already have drafts for each Behaviour / Competency Statement, why does it cost the same to have these edited as it does to write them from scratch?

    That’s great as it gives us a basis for our comprehensive consultation process but unfortunately we are not able to offer a discount under these circumstances as the quality and suitability and suitability of examples provided can vary greatly. It may be possible to use examples you have written as a base but in 99% of cases they need to be carefully re-written to ensure that each of the criteria for the Behaviours are covered at the appropriate Grade / Level within your answer. This can actually sometimes take longer than working from scratch! We can also ‘convert’ examples you have prepared for the old (2012-2017) Competency Framework – Please contact us for details.

    3) I cannot think of any examples; can you make them up for me?

    No – We will never make up / fabricate Behaviour examples for you as this would be completely counter-productive. What we will do is to use our extensive experience and knowledge of what type of examples work best to help you select examples from your experience which best meet with the criteria required. We will then draft these for you in the best possible way to demonstrate your suitability. This will be more effective for your short term and long term employment prospects. 

    4) Can you guarantee a score of 7 out of 7 for every Behaviour Statement?

    Regrettably, we cannot guarantee that you will achieve any particular score using Behaviour Statements we have produced for you. This is because there are so many factors involved in the selection process that it is simply not possible to accurately predict what grade you will achieve. The score is also based on the content of the example and how well that fits with the role you are applying for. We typically achieve scores of 4-6 for our clients in most cases and are able to improve scores by up to 2 grades in 90%+ of cases. 

    5) I am applying for multiple roles at the same Grade / Level, can you provide one set of Behaviour Statements to cover all of them?

    In most cases this is no problem as long as all of the roles you are planning to apply for use the same Competency Framework. We have helped many clients to build a ‘bank’ of Behaviour Statements which they have successfully used for a range of applications. You can also build you ‘bank’ of Behaviour Statements month by month or week by week, adding new ones as required for each application. We aim to be flexible to help you make a strong application.
